Project Criteria:

Students will:

  1. 1.utilize Photoshop to develop a value range in color.

  2. 2.create a grayscale image based on the original colored image.

  3. 3.save two copies - 1 color and 1 grayscale into the proper folders.

These are good examples you may use or find your own on the Internet.  You may drag one of these images to your desktop and then OPEN it in IN Photoshop.

For this step:

  1. 1.Select image from Internet<drag to desktop.

  2. 2.Open image from Photoshop: File<Open<Desktop

Rename your layers to fit your picture.  Your top layer MUST not be modified.  It is to be left alone.

Create 3 background copies by dragging the locked Background to the icon next to the trash on the lower right corner of your Layers palette.

Begin working on your first layer...Use the MAGIC WAND tool to select the area you want to begin coloring.  Be sure that the layers above this one have the eyeball turned off (visibility).

Using the techniques you learned on the SPHERE, now add shading to your layer.

Now switch to your next layer and begin the same process.  Make sure to TURN OFF the eyeball (visibility) for the layers above the layer you are working on.

Add shading to this layer.

Now complete the last layer you are coloring/shading.  For this one, in order for the starburst to be colored, I SHIFT<CLICKED to select all the areas that needed to be colored and then added the yellow using a large paintbrush.

Once you are done with all the coloring/shading...click on the normal button just above your layers and select Multiply FOR EACH LAYER including the top layer.  This step “cuts through” all of the layers so that you can view them all at the same time.

To save:

  1. 1.Save a copy in YOUR folder on the ROBOT: your last name first nameCOLORBOOK (DionMrsCOLORBOOK)

  2. 2.Save a copy in the Finished Projects Folder: Coloring Book

Create a grayscale version and SAVE:

  1. 1.Save a copy in YOUR folder on the ROBOT: your last name first nameCOLORBOOKgray (DionMrsCOLORBOOKgray)

  2. 2.Save a copy in the Finished Projects Folder: Coloring Book

Your work will be completely finished...these are examples of the steps you are to take to create your image.

Here is another example of the student creating their own image.  This also earned extra points.

In this example, the student created their own image, this is the grayscale version.  By creating their own image, the student’s work earned extra points.
